So this wasn’t a Network Marketing Training, but another niche I have been working in for the last 4 or 5 years.  I had a great time and Michael’s events always feature cutting edge speakers and interesting entreprenur minded attendees.  Several of the “No Fluff” ezine subscribers were there and it was good to have the opportunity to put a face with a name.

 Now for the interesting trend.  Most Internet Marketers in the past have avoided Network Marketing for the most part.  However I would say that at least 1/2 of the speakers at this event were involved in some type of network marketing program and probably 70% of the attendees.  This is by far the highest percentage for both speakers and attendess that I have ever seen over the last 10 years or so when speaking at these type of INTERNET MARKETING events.

This is good and bad. 

 Unfortunately the market place today is full of alot of peolple who are jacks of all trades and masters of none.  Find what’s right for you……….FOCUS…………BECOME SELF EDUCATED…………………MASTER IT…………THEN MOVE ON.

This advise works well when learning how to market online.   If you want to learn how to drive traffic to your website, MASTER one system at a time.

etc. etc. etc.

In Network Marketing you can’t just MASTER NETWORK MARKETING in one class.  Break MLM Training down the same way you would learning internet marketing or driving traffic to your website.  One topic at a time in a Sequential order.

*   Master Local Lead Generation
*   Master Funded Proposals

The Internet Marketing Worlds and Network Marketing Worlds will continue to combine.  Most Internet Marketing Pros will always treat MLM like a multi-level affiliate program.   However those who take the time to MASTER NETWORK MARKETING and get the proper Network Marketing Training will create the fortunes in the future.

I personally looked over the evaluations and made suggestion on how they could move their network marketing business forward. I was absolutely amazed at the people who have been with a company a couple of years, have six or seven distributors in their organization, and hadn’t personally sponsored anyone in ninety days or longer.
Now, a couple of years later and nothing has changed.

That is were the inspiration for this article came…

Professional Network Marketers, Leaders, and Future Leaders RECRUIT EVERY WEEK! Period! You must establish your recruiting rhythm, so each and every week you are prospecting and recruiting. Momentum in your organization starts with YOU!

I want to share with you a couple of simple inexpensive methods for recruiting in your local market. I believe you should build it in your backyard first! Don’t go across the country until you have gone across the street. Dale are you saying that I shouldn’t recruit online?

Absolutely not! I am talking about your focus; your focus should be to develop a strong local organization.

METHOD # 1 BULLETIN BOARD FLYERS
Many community businesses have public bulletin boards to place yard sale announcements, automobiles for sell, lost pets, etc. These types of announcement boards are most common at grocery store chains, Wal-Mart stores, and laundry mats.
Many distributors have also had success posting these type flyers on pop machines, newspaper dispensers, and pay phone booths.

You can design an 8 1/2 X 11 flyers for your product(s) and or opportunity. You should have a minimum of 30 Flyers at different locations within your community at all times. How much does it cost to have 30 flyers copied? A couple of dollars?
METHOD #2 BUTTONS

“Lose Weight Now, Ask Me How?”
Herba-Life built an empire with this stupid little button. Buttons are easy, simple and very duplicatable. Don’t leave your house without your stupid button, buttons, will make you sales and create prospects for your business.
Imagine an organization of 20, 200, 2000, or 20,000 distributors in your downline, all wearing a button and sponsoring people and retailing products, EVERYDAY. Do you want to be cool, or do you want to make $$$?

METHOD #3 INFORMATION IN WAITING ROOMS.

At our former company we produced a magazine called “Success Makers”. The magazine consisted of about 20+ pages with Success Story after success story. Many companies offer 10 -20 page product information booklets. Companies, who are featured in Industry publications such as Money Makers Monthly, can also use reprint articles. What do you do with these publications?

Place them in waiting rooms. Doctors offices, dentist offices, tire stores, barber shops, anywhere that people must sit and wait. You should make a list of locations in your area, and ALL of them should have your literature in their waiting rooms.

After your locations are established you must SERVICE your location. In other words you, a teenage child, your spouse, your mother, someone must periodically check your locations! Check the public bulletin boards to make sure your flyers are still visible and the waiting rooms for your magazines and or booklets. We call this establishing a route.

Getting the information into your market place one time, does little good. You must consistently keep your message in front of your local community. Just like follow-up is critical in the recruiting process so is SERVICING your “literature locations” on your route.

METHOD #4 DROP CARDS OR SIZZLE CARDS

These cards are different than your business card. They are basically a business card, with a classified ad printed on it sending people to a website or sizzle call.
Every network marketer should be dropping these cards, everyday, everywhere they go. The most effective cards we have seen look like $100.00 bills. These cards are viral because people who pick them up, DON’T THROW THEM AWAY, and many times use them to play a joke on a friend, or family member.

I cannot tell you how many times over the years that the person who found the hundred dollar bill card didn’t call, but their friend or family member did. Powerful, very powerful and you can get info on these $100 bill cards at CMGPromotions.com

I realize some of you reading this article suffer from “TooCoolitis” You are too cool to initiate the above methods. The BOTTOM LINE IS ………YOU aren’t the issue, a duplicatable system and programs are!

You must become aggressive, you must understand that there are X number of people you are going to have to expose to your product & opportunity before you achieve the success that you desire. The quicker you get through the numbers, the faster you will have Success. It is really that simple!
Many people approach their network marketing business with no posture, no work ethic, and no drive. When things don’t work out, who do they blame? Certainly not the person in the mirror!

If you are going to learn how to swim you must get in the water!!! Many MLM distributors are sticking their BIG TOE in the pool trying to learn how to swim!

PEOPLE FOLLOW PEOPLE who have enough guts to sprint, jump, and do a cannon ball right in the middle of the pool! If you are going to build it then go for it, quit playing around. Life is not a practice session!

The truth is such an elusive concept in MLM. The proliferation of MLM Gurus that make a fortune telling people how to build a downline, that have never, ever, actually built a six figure income is staggering.

You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth! Although that’s a famous line from the movie “A Few Good Men” it applies to so many people who start an MLM business. When it comes to MLM training most people will tell you what you want to hear instead of telling you what you need to hear.
The real truth about MLM.

Success in MLM, network marketing or a home-based business isn’t going to happen fast enough. Doesn’t that concept apply to every aspect of our lives? Doctors don’t go to a Junior College for a semester or two and become doctors. Lawyers don’t become lawyers in 6 months either.

MLM training has become this endless mind game of telling people what they want to hear instead of the real truth about the industry. You can make a fortune telling people who want to live a better life all this warm and fuzzy stuff that they long to hear, but it won’t help them achieve success.

Here’s an example, all you have to do is make friends with your prospects. Well, if that’s all I have to do I’m going to make a fortune. It sounds so easy! The real truth is that you can make friends all you want, but that does not mean that you are ever going to build a real business.

Can you imagine telling your employer that you spent all day making friends? Would that work at a car dealership?

Imagine what your boss would say. I see that you spent several hours with that guy, did you sell him a car? No, but he sure is a nice guy! Let me tell you about his family and when he got laid off and when…

Please, do not misunderstand what we’re saying, yes you do need to build relationships with people that decide to join your business, and while it may make you feel good to build relationships with your prospects, you simply cannot build a business that way. Do they employ that concept at Sears, Wal-Mart, Exxon or Ford?

There are a lot of people who say they want to build a business.

I really am serious about changing my life! We have heard that from thousands upon thousands of people over the last decade and more than 80% of those people find an excuse why a home business won’t work for them. It’s easy to say that you want to change your life, but you really find out how serious somebody is when you tell them what they have to do to become successful.

Last week we were talking with a man who has been very successful in his life. He’s made a lot of money in the past, but at 50 years old he’s struggling financially and frustrated. If we had told him how easy it would be to become successful we could have signed him on the dotted line that very day.

Not so fast. We are no longer interested in signing people up, we’re looking for serious people. Thankfully, we’ve been very successful and can afford to be selective, but the real truth is nobody should try to slam people into a business.

This man said all the right things. He’s been successful and he knows what it takes to become successful and he says he really wants to improve his life. Doesn’t everybody say that, or something like that?

When we started to share with him what we knew for a fact that it would take to become successful he backed off immediately. Oh well, I would never do that. I’m not going to do that. Had we taken the advice of more than a few so called MLM experts we would have spent a long time making friends with a man who clearly wasn’t going to do what it took to become successful.

Perhaps, we could have bonded on the phone and felt all warm and fuzzy, but warm and fuzzy doesn’t pay the bills.

Treat your MLM opportunity like a business, it’s the only way you will ever become successful.

When I started in the industry there were less than 10 active network marketing companies.  With the evolution of PC’s, UPS for shipping etc, etc.  it is estimated that their are over 2,000 MLM Companies operating worldwide with 200 new ones starting and 200 going out of business every month.

Everyone was taught the same basic system back then.

Buy a spiral notebook and right down the name of everyone you know, (a minum of 500 people) and share the business and products with them.  Either a 1 on 1 presentation or hotel meeting.

–LOCAL LEAD GENERATION–

Newspaper Ads, Bulletin Board Flyers, Door Hangers, Drop Cards, Direct Mail, etc. etc.   (All methods which are still work today, but are neglected by the majority of network marketers)

–LEAD PROGRAMS–

The first lead company that I am aware of  was PRO STEP.  In the beginning when you joined you would receive a large envelope each month with 100 or more name, address and phone numbers of people who had requested info about a home based business.  Notice, there was no such thing as email addresses at the time.

–FAX BLASTING AND VOICE MAIL– 

My friend Joe Schroder popularized this technology with his Quick Link System in the mid eighties.  Today with anti faxing laws, and peoples inpatience with voice mail messages, this is not as productive as it once was.

–EMAIL-AUTORESPONDER PROGRAMS–

This was touted by many “Sefl Proclaimed” gurus as the answer.  Wave 3 Network Marketing was finally here!  With the inconsistency of email delivery, the leads themselves and spam laws, this method still works, but not nearly at the level it once did.

 – LEAD CAPTURE PAGES AND FUNDED PROSPOSALS– 

This seems to be all the buzz in today’s market.  However, for the most part a network marketer who attempts to build their business by these methods only is a recipe for disaster! 

–INTERNET MARKETING— 

True internet marketing with a MLM is a backend is becoming more and more popular and works well with those  that already have a list of subscribers, if you don’t…again a recipe for disaster.

SO WHAT IS THE ANSWER?  I believe you are going to see a return to the basics within this industry.  There is an entire segment of MLM distributors who wouldn’t have a clue how to develop a lead without a computer, that is a crime!

To become a professional marketer in today’s world, you need to study marketing, all marketing.  Direct mail and postcards will make a come back, along with many other local lead generation methods…..mark my words!  It simply must happen.

Every week I have people that call and want to hire me to coach them who have followed a “self proclaimed” gurus advise for throwing away their warm market list, forget local prospecting and DO IT ALL ON THE INTERNET.  These people have invested thousands of dollars in online promotions and many times have very little, if anything to show for it!

Yes, LEARN INTERNET MARKETING, but not until you have MASTERED HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN LEADS IN YOUR LOCAL MARKET!

Learn everything you can about lead capture pages, funded prosposals, working MLM Leads, BUT NOT UNTIL YOU HAVE MASTERED HOW TO RECRUIT IN YOUR LOCAL MARKET!

Far too many network marketers are trying to learn how to do Algebra, and they don’t know how to ADD yet!

Learn your business in a Sequential, logical order!

That is why they don’t allow freshmen in college to take advance classes!  THINK ABOUT THAT!

Flying home I am sitting in a small unique waiting area at the Charlotte airport.  Unique, because all the seats were facing the same direction.  I was in the back and had a great view. There were  17 people sitting in the waiting area.  I counted 9 of the 17 who were on laptops in the waiting area, not counting me!

I saw 2 that were on Ebay, and most seemed to be shopping. My goodness how the world has changed in a short period of time!   People that at one time were afraid to give their credit card info online are now buying all kinds of things weekly from the Internet.  Personally, not counting resteraunts,  I spend more money online than at Brick and Morter Businesses, what about you?

I BELIEVE YOU MUST START YOUR MLM BUSINESS IN YOUR WARM MARKET.  This is your training ground.  You must have a strong base system to get new people started right in their local market.

There is a time and place for the internet!  There are 3 simple steps to successful online marketing.

Just make sure you have a site that is designed to sell.  90% of the websites provided by MLM Companies STINK!  They are not designed to sell, they are not designed to capture leads, they are designed more for distributor training, not prospecting.
