This week I had a Diamond leader in the company I work with ask me, Dale what are your favorite personal development books? As I was putting together the list, I realized what a positive impact these books had on me over the years. At age 20 I set a goal to read 20 books a year, and I have maintained that pace for the past 30 years. Wow I am getting old 
, so when I made my list of 20 it was a real experience.
So why am I sharing this with you?
Oh course my list consisted of the classics like Think & Grow Rich, The Magic of Thinking Big, & The Magic or Believing which 70% of the people that visit this website have probably read. Here is my point. There were other books on my list like Chicken to an Eagle, and The 7 Day Mental Diet that I am sure many of you have never read. These books are not to be missed, they are both awesome.

Readers are leaders. As I think back about the organizations and people I have worked with over the years, I can say that without question the Top people I have had the pleasure to work with were all readers and understood we are in the people development and leadership development business. "If you build people, people build the business".
I had a customer today send me a post today from a
MLM training forum.
The question was … Should I tell my friends and family
about my opportunity?
Here was one of the responses:
Many people have a problem telling their family and friends in
the beginning. I think you should tell them but not until you are
already making good money. When it comes to mixing money
and family you want to be careful.
Out of curiosity, I went to the guys blog just to see
who would give such lame advice. As expected I
saw this logo.
This logo always an indicator
of somebody who has all the
answers and no downline and
has bought into a concept that
simply guarantees failure for
99% of the population.
What really blew me away was this young man’s bio on
his website, which said:
I was introduced to the MLM business about 2 years ago by a family member
So his advice is don’t talk with family in friends, but in
reality he was sponsored by a family member, say what?
When someone tells you to throw away your warm market
list, don’t attend trainings and events and to become the
hunted instead of the hunter, rest assured they have a
high dollar training program they are trying to sell you!
Ask any network marketer how they entered the industry
90% were introduced by a friend, family member or business
associated. Did you hear what I just said? I have asked this
question at dozens of seminars over the years. This is a
warm market business!
The ONLY reason to recruit in the cold market is to get into the
warm market of the people you recruit. The learning curve for
doing it all on the Internet is simply too long for 99% of the
population.
It all comes down to how you approach people you know.

However the perfect phone script will do you no good if you
feel like you are begging or chasing people. I have never felt
like that. Chasing in MLM is an unproductive ATTITUDE it
is not a reality.
You have to believe enough in your product and or opportunity
that you feel obligated to share it with those you love and care
about. If you don’t feel that way you are probably in the wrong
company.
It is all about the approach.
Imagine if a friend contacted you and said.
“I am involved in a new company and I need a favor, can you
help me out?” (95% of the people say yes, what do you need)

contact friends, business associates, and family members…

to get your business moving in the right direction is from
referrals from people you know! It is never about who you
know it is always about who do they know!

with almost every website I own. Truthfully this one method
can give me all the website traffic I could ever want. I have

It seems like every week I have customers and clients calling me asking where they should purchase mlm leads for their network marketing business.
My first question is what is your monthly advertising budget?
90% don’t have one.
My second question is are you earning a full-time income right now?
60% aren’t
I get this question so often is the reason for me writing this article is to simply have a point of reference to send people to. So let’s explore the question of network marketing leads in a little more detail. I am going to share with you a couple of things to think about in this article. This is a very broad subject and one that I have written several articles, reports and books on.
In this article I just want to cover a couple of foundational principals and ideas.
The most valuable lead you can have is the one you create yourself. Let me say that again. The most valuable lead you can have is the one you create yourself. Not the leads you buy.
So many people teach that having a constant flow of mlm leads is the secret to success in this industry. It is not. It is part of the overall equation, but it not “the answer”.
If success in this industry was as easy as buying a couple of hundred dollars worth of leads each month and sponsoring new team members from those leads, don’t you think there would be a lot more successful distributors in every company?
I have been in this industry over 30 years and I have never met 1 person that has built their entire team from leads they purchased. I have never heard anyone tell me “I found this leader from a leads list I purchased”.
The only people I really know that are having any kind of significant financial success with purchased leads are the affiliates SELLING THE LEADS.
The best lead you can have is the one you develop yourself. Mastering lead generation is a very important skill that should be developed by all professionals in this industry. After you develop this skill you can use the methods you learn over and over throughout your career. I teach our clients that you need to have at least 5 lead generation methods working for you at all times.
So let me ask you, how many mlm lead generation methods do you have working for you right now?
If the answer is less than 5 this is where your focus should be. Take the money you are thinking about spending on leads and learn how to develop leads yourself. I want to encourage you to master as many lead generation methods as you possibly can. Understand, that this is where success starts. It is not the entire secret, but if you expect to create a large duplicating organization you must master lead generation. The more information you have access to the more confusion is created. Think about that concept. It is part of what we call the Paradox of Knowledge.
Most network marketers today are exposed to so much conflicting information that they really don't know how or where to start, or how to keep their business moving forward after they do start.
When I started in the industry over 30 years ago we really only had access to our upline leaders. There weren't thousands of self proclaimed gurus screaming at us with the magic system for sponsoring 20 – 30 new reps every month.
I can't image trying to learn the skill sets and mind sets necessary for network marketing success in today's email, twitter, FB and youtube world. I would have probably never found the true mentors to guide my path if that had been the world we lived in when I started. It saddens me to think about all the muck that good people seem to wade through on a daily basis in hopes of finding their magic bullet.
I have news for you, and this is the truth THE MAGIC BULLET DOESN'T EXIST!
When in doubt always refer to the wisdom of the ages. Any advice you get should always be compared to proven, universal success principals.
Always establish and draw principals from books like Think and Grow Rich and the book of Proverbs in the Bible. Any advice you can get from the late, great Jim Rohn, you can take to the bank!
The number one question you should always ask yourself before listening or taking advice from anyone is "Who is this person and why should I be listeningto them". This question alone will cut years off of your learning curve.

I understand it is a very frustrating time to be involved in network marketing.
Everyone seems to be promising the Magic Bullet.
The TRUTH is to become successful in this industry you must recognize it is not the lottery, it is a business.
This business REQUIRES that you develop new mindsets and skill sets that you probably don't have.
You should approach this business like you would going back to school and getting an education. It is not going to happen over night. This is not about getting rich over night, it is about getting rich for sure, but you have to follow the proven systems, concepts, and principals that have stood the test of time.
In today's marketing world you have to make sure you always have fresh batteries in your BS meter. If you don't you can be taken down a dead end road very quickly.
I have so much I could share with you, but really the purpose of the post this morning is to say "Seek and you shall find".
Building a network marketing team is not easy, it is not suppose to be, but it is worth it. Study and internalize the wisdom of the ages and you will be well on your way. If something sounds like BS, there is 100% chance it is. There are no short cuts to network marketing success. If there were I would certainly share them with you.
It all come down to you developing the right skill sets and mindsets, and if that is something you are not willing to do then my suggestion is to go sell hammers at the flea market to earn a few extra bucks.
Really, 70% of the population have no business being involved in this industry, because they don't have the right mindsets.
